17/07 The County Council have released news that they wish to develop farm land off Knowles Hill. Firstly and most importantly I have been in contact with County Farms at Stafford and I am assured that Gemma and Simon, who farm this land will be safe.
The Village Design Statement says that we should preserve the open countryside that intrudes into the middle of the village, as this gives Rolleston much of its character. In my opinion this is possibly the most important piece of countryside in the village. When the time is right I urge everyone to write to the Borough Council objecting to the development of this land.
It is one piece of news I have been expecting for a long time. The County Council are desperate for cash and the Borough Council wants sites for its housing development. We must fight this as hard as possible.
10/04 The Site Allocations and Policies document is now on the Borough Council web site. This is an important document which lists all the land in the Borough that developers have expressed an interest in developing, and is worth reading. The Parish Council will be commenting on the contents.
16/09 There was a meeting for Councillors on the Housing Growth Point this week. Taking the figure of 13 000 new houses at 40 houses per hectare this gives us 325 hectares for housing. The strategy will be a failure if it does not included more sites to generate employment and a further 250 Ha are planned for employment sites. A further large amount of land will be needed for infrastructure - schools, roads etc. Alex Fox did say at one point that the final figure for the houses may be nearer 18000; this is a fair sized town.
16/07 The County Council have just admitted that they are considering selling off the 'returning soldier's' land. This is potentially disastrous news for the farmers who rent the land as they can potentially be turned out of their homes and livelihoods when their leases expire. The County Council are not renowned for either their humanity or common sense so it's no wonder the farmers are worried.
A young Rolleston couple who have about for years to run on their lease have just invested very heavily on a new milking parlour. If the land is sold off when their lease ends the equipment will be worth very little. They then face the prospect of being homeless, without jobs and with an enormous loan to pay off with no income.
It is also potentially disastrous news for Rolleston as we are virtually surrounded by these farms.
They include land going out towards Tutbury; land in the triangle between Anslow Lane, Knowles Hill/Rolleston Road and Harehedge Lane/A511 and land on the western side of Beacon Road.
The Borough Council are not going to stand in the way of developing these sites when they are looking for sites for their 13,000 houses.
Note that you could have read this story here before the it was in the Burton Mail, who I gave it to to raise publicity.
