Latest News
06/10 The Parish Council are looking to put some facilities for recreation for adolescents in Craythorne wood. This will involve some landscaping and some wooden structures but no metal equipment. The County Council have grants for this kind of facility which will hopefully offset most of the cost. It would go very nicely in the central area which has never taken well since the fire and would not involve clearing any trees.21/08 The hedges around the village are starting to get overgrown and to restrict footways. This is a perennial problem. Everyone with a hedge needs to think of mothers with pushchairs who have to push the child on to the road (one or two are that bad) and also partially sighted people who can be hurt quite badly by thick branches. (I just pasted this from last year and presumably will have to do the same next year)
14/07 The Parish Council agreed to go ahead with plans for a picnic area in Craythorne Woods adjacent to the car park. The work will be done by volunteers and will cost very little.
14/07 The Parish Council welcomed an offer from the County Council to erect a bus shelter opposite Hall Road. This will be a perspex shelter. I objected to the type of shelter as I do not think it is suitable for a rural location. I argued for putting some Parish Council money towards the project and building a brick and wood shelter. However I do welcome a shelter at this spot; it has been asked for for years.
14/07 The Parish Council are further investigating building a multi user games area (MUGA) on Elizabeth Avenue playing field. This is an expensive idea with lots of ramifications and the Council is rightly taking its time and getting as much information as possible before committing money to the project. Tell me what you think - visit the survey page.
29/04 The Parish Council has decided (not surprisingly) to object to all the proposals for development on land within or near to Rolleston contained in the Sire Allocations document. (See Borough Council page).
05/04 The County Council have cut back drastically the number of farms they want to close. We still do not know how this will affect the farms around Rolleston and we are watching carefully.
24/11 The recent working party to clear the brook in Brookside was turned into a party political stunt by the appearance of the Tory prospective parliamentary candidate together with a photographer from the Burton Mail. According to the story in the Mail the candidate turned up because he wanted to help Rolleston. According to the Burton Mail it was a coincidence that that a photographer came for the first time ever for a clean up day. The Tories then have the bare faced cheek to criticise me for being political because I was annoyed that this will stop people from volunteering in future. It's a strange world!
20/08 Chance of surgery disappears In the light of the latest letter from the local health authority, the South Staffs Primary Care Trust, to the Parish Council it seems that the chances of getting a doctor's surgery in the village now or in the future are zero. This is in spite of the petition which got over 800 signatures. The Rolleston people who are with the Bridge surgery (historically a lot of Rolleston people), if they are too ill to drive, have to get two buses and spend a large part of the day getting to and from the surgery. The anonymous group who organised and printed the misleading leaflet and posted it through every door must be proud of what they have done. I am really boiling mad about this; I could go on at much greater length but it would achieve nothing. I and the Parish Council have worked very hard to try to reverse the damage done by these people but to no avail. I would like to thank Heidi, the Parish Clerk, for all her hard work.
16/07 The latest news is that the County Council are to sell off the 'returning soldiers' farms. This includes the land in the big triangle between Knowles Hill/Rolleston Road, Beamhill and Anslow Lane. This is disastrous news for the tenants and possibly very bad news for Rolleston and Outwoods (see home page).
